Namibia’s annual inflation rate eased to 2.9% in January 2026, down from 3.2% in December and reaching its lowest level since February 2021. This was the third consecutive month of decelerating inflation, driven largely by slower price growth in several categories: food & non-alcoholic beverages (1.9% vs 2.6% in December), education (2.4% vs 4.3%), hotels, cafes & restaurants (3.6% vs 4.2%), recreation & culture (3.7% vs 4.3%), and miscellaneous goods & services (1.5% vs 2.8%). At the same time, communication prices fell by 1.4%, reversing a 0.4% increase in the previous month. On a monthly basis, the consumer price index (CPI) rose by 0.8%, quickening from a 0.1% gain in December.
